I’ve been thinking about the characters a lot lately — which makes sense, because writing the last chapter of their story is exactly the kind of thing that keeps you up at night. So today I want to do something a little different. I want to talk about them. One last time before the finale.

 

UNCLE CHIP

Charles Henderson Proctor was not supposed to be anyone’s hero. He was a Wall Street guy with a great apartment and zero desire to be responsible for two magical teenagers. Rose Eldersdottir came into this story furious and formidable and absolutely certain that Chip was going to ruin everything. She wasn’t entirely wrong. But she was wrong about the important parts. Rose’s journey in Book 6 is one of the most personal threads in the whole finale — and if you’ve been shipping something since Book 2, I think you’ll be very happy.

 

SADIE

Our girl. The reason for all of it. Sadie turns 18 in Graduation Fae — which means she graduates high school and ascends the Fae throne in the same week. The final battle, in many ways, is about one thing: whether she gets to choose her own story. I think you’ll feel every page of it.

 

ADDY

The kid with the axe. The chaos agent. The sibling who makes everything more complicated and more wonderful at the same time. Addy’s role in the finale has a moment that I am confident will break several people’s hearts in the best possible way.

 

I can’t say more than that without spoilers. But I wanted you to know that these characters are being handled with care. This ending is built on love.
