This is the Books and Authors Fantasy and Sci-Fi Podcast Episode 198 with author Erin P.T. Canning.
Welcome to the latest episode of the Books and Authors Fantasy and Sci-Fi Podcast! Co-hosted by Jamie Davis and Scott Walker, this podcast is exactly what the title says it is: a show focused on SF&F books and the authors creating them!
We’ll cover Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sword & Sorcery, and everything in between. Expect to find the best and brightest authors from all corners of the SF&F book world. Plus, we’ll add in a few other very special guests as well along the way.
Learn more about Jamie’s author updates and books at JamieDavisBooks.com.
Learn more about Scott’s writerly mischief at ScottIsWriting.com (and download a free copy of his cozy urban fantasy, Dwarves and Daisies).
Our guest this week is author Erin P.T. Canning.
Erin P.T. Canning has worked for more than fifteen years as an editor, encouraging each writer’s individual voice and strengthening their writing goals.
She always planned to write a book. Then she had kids. While she focused on them, she stopped writing—for six years. Something deep inside was missing. Depression, anxiety, and anger forced her to search for herself, both for her sake and her family’s.
Despite fearing her skills had atrophied, Erin started writing again. One journal entry led to one blog post that led to her creating her podcast, Parents Who Write. Erin’s current role as a podcaster and writing coach enables her to help others pursue their writing dreams.
She finished writing her own shitty first draft in 2022, and The Aerytol Saga became so epic that she keeps dividing the manuscript in half. She released her first fantasy-romance novel, Ruins and Redemption, in 2023. Book one celebrates Erin taking herself off the shelf and making her own dreams come true.
She earned her MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins University, and she lives with her husband and their two boys in Maryland.
